The classical French beds, much admired during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, were almost unavailable at the end of that nineteenth century. Simon Horn made the decision to change this situation and in 1982 founded his company, because he foresaw an interest in the most elegant beds of the world.
Simon Horn Furniture has both inspired and led this exceptional renaissance.
As designer, producer, wholesale trader and retailer, Simon Horn Furniture now undoubtedly is one of Europe's most important experts, with a range of more than seventy designs, varying from simple and uncomplicated, to grand and glorious.
Often also dubbed 'The Bed Man', this is the man behind a number of the most influential ideas for the bedroom, such as the reintroduction of the 'Lits Bateaux' and the classical French beds, as well as the inventor of the spacesaving pull-out beds.
The company has won several prizes for dedication to quality and innovation, amongst which the award of the prestigious Guild Mark of The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
Simon Horn makes real beds of solid wood (rosewood, cherry, walnut, maple etc.), in classical styles like Louis Philippe 'Lit Bateau', Empire, Louis XV, Louis XVI, traditional Engelse four-posters and American Colonial.
Fitted with webbing (braided panels) or upholstery, and available in several kinds of wood and finishings leverbaar.
Handcrafted from fine wood that, over the years, only becomes more beautiful. Many components are custom-made...
Each pattern has its own source and Simon Horn reproduces original beds from an eclectic variety of sources.
While the character of the original is retained, its size is adapted to meet modern demands.
Besides this, Simon Horn offers a wide range of spacesaving pull-out beds, in various styles.
In contrast with most sofa beds, the lovely wooden versions of Simon's are solid and robust, with luxurious comfortable mattresses.
The unique designs hide a revolutionary mechanism that unfolds in a flash, creating a double bed without hard edges or dividers.
Or, if so desired, 2 separate single beds at matching height. But they are also available as 'daybed', in a normal single version, without mechanism. They offer extra places to stay for special occasions, but are also utterly suitable for appartments, studios and teenager rooms.
Simon Horn has its own workshops in Devon, but also has many craftsmen at work abroad, from France to Kashmir. This results in a sturdily constructed piece of furniture, treated to last for generatiosn: an heirloom and antique in all, but age.
