Anker bedding is one of the oldest Belgian family traditions in sleeping comfort.
With his sons, Aloïs Corneille, in the early Twenties, set out as a pioneer in the half-industrial manufacture of mattresses.
At the time, they were still crafted from natural materials like kapok, virgin wool and horsehair, flocon and even rabbit-hair.
In 1930 his son Gérard Corneille founded the 'Anker' brand and established his factory in Harelbeke.
A while later another son, Albert, founded 'Acor'. Even before the war broke out, the first genterations of mattresses with natural latex and steel springs were launched.
The manufacture of durable mattresses had become a matter of honour within the family, and soon, a full entourage of upholstered beds, bedspreads and bed-textiles included, was part of that.
In 1955 Karel Corneille continued the tradition, and in 1969 he built the new factory in the Vaarnewijk Industry Park in Harelbeke.
He was a forerunner who managed to bring orthopedic and allergy-resistant qualities to his mattresses, by building in reinforced zones and using mould-resistant fabrics and dustfree filling materials.
In the early Eighties Vincent Corneille joined the company, learned the trade, and split the product range according to a marketbased philosophy, in which allergy problems, ergonomics, design and style took shape in specialized programs, each one with its own brandsupport.
The strong growth in turnover again led to an expansion of storage- and production-facilities, in 1989.
In 1996 the renowned fashiondesigner Chris Mestdagh drew up a complete line of bedtextiles, and brought more fashion into the world of bedding.
So as to be able to fully display the entire range of upholstered beds, bedtextiles and the technical sleeping comfort, a new complex of showrooms and offices was setup in 1997, to serve the Anker salesmen even better and to further intensify cooperation.
March 10th, 2004, a takeover-agreement was reached between LS Bedding (Maldegem) and Anker Bedding. LS Bedding - specialist in technical sleeping comfort - takes over all shares in Anker Bedding.
The Corneille-Silence couple, however, remains intensely active within the newly developed structure. They will fully concentrate on the further development of the renowned Anker Bedding concepts.
On a market in which expansion and scantier supply threaten to gain the upper hand, LS Bedding and Anker Bedding offer a high-quality alternative.
